Foulke turns down 2007 option

Apparently in a desire to play closer to home, RHP Keith Foulke turned down a $3.75 million player option to stay with the Boston Red Sox through the 2007 season. The Red Sox had already declined their team option on Foulke, which would have given Foulke an additional $1.5 million had he chosen to stay, for a total 2007 salary of $5.25 million.
Foulke enters the free-agent market after a series of injury-plagued seasons following his 2004 success that helped bring a World Series championship to the team. As a free agent he will likely command far less than the $5.25 million he could have received in Boston.
