Forsberg up for Trade?

Well, I thought I’d never have the pleasure… Oh, who am I kidding… It apparently seems that troubles in Philly sports are in no short supply. After having come back from major foot surgery, Peter Forsberg may be on the chopping block, or at least his future with the Philadelphia Flyers is uncertain. He apparently met with GM Paul Holmgren last Monday to discuss his future and both left without an answer.
And just today, Flyers GM Paul Holmgren indicated to reporters that the Atlanta Thrashers were the latest team to indicate interest in Forsberg. Instead of saying flat out that there would be no deal, Holmgren instead took to depicting shakier footing with Forsberg and his latest rehabilitation woes. The Flyers claim that they are trying to find the “right skate” for Forsberg to play without pain in his repaired foot. Sounds like a lame excuse biding time for a lame hockey club looking to dumb a now lame Peter Forsberg.
On other fronts, a source told the LA Times that the Ducks are interested in the “availability” of Forsberg. By the way, any team lucky enough to whisk Forsberg away from a bleeding franchise would only have to pay 1.3 million of his 5.75 million dollar salary. And guess what?! It just so happens that the Ducks have about 2 mil in cap space. Well, that’s convenient! Others rumored to be interested are the Canucks, Canadiens, Flames, and, who else but the Rangers! Who pride themselves on being a lavish retirement home for over-the-hill and injury-riddled veterans.
Forsberg has been touted as one of the best centers in the modern NHL era. I guess some are willing to overlook his latest status as injured. This is the latest in the sad stream of events in Philly sports, where many of their clubs have dumped their superstars in an effort to divert costs (or scandal) and maybe, just maybe, focus on rebuilding. Instead of dishing out doom like their legion of old, it now seems that the Flyers are on the receiving....
