The judicial travesty that was the Duke Lacrosse team rape trial (circa Spring 2006) has finally come to a complete close; Former Assistant District Attorney Mike Nifong was sentenced to one day (max that he had faced was 30) in prison for criminal contempt in court on Friday August 31; his "sentence" begins at 9 a.m. September 7th.
The ridiculous attempt by Nifong to create a soap box for him to stand in an attempt to increase his votes for Durham District Attorney failed miserably. Along with his newly sentenced jail time he has lost his license to practice law and has resigned from his position with Durham County.
While nothing can erase the events and the effects that they had on the falsely accused, comments from the accused and their families remain positive and show a willingness to put the entire thing behind them. After the sentencing had ended, Superior Court Judge W. Osmond Smith III was quoted as saying, "If what I impose with regard to Mr. Nifong would make things better or different for what's already happened, I don't know what it would be or how I could do it."
Well put I suppose.

I'll take the former any day of the week.
It is an unfortunate situation anyway you look at it.
