For a College Athlete, Mitch Mustain Has a Lot of Growing Up to do!

Lets all think back for a second...It wasn’t that long ago that the parents of three University of Arkansas Hog players gathered with Athletic Director Frank Broyles for their annual PTA meeting. Wow, a university having a PTA meeting...Shouldn’t all respective schools have these? Only makes sense, right? One can never have too many discussions involving the upcoming Bake Sales and the prices they should charge per cookie and brownie...Yummy! However, that wasn’t the only thing on the docket that was up for discussion...The of latest items of concerns was over the offense! Would you look at that...Not only can these parents bake a hell of a cookie and brownie, but they can also distinguish between straight-up man coverage and zone with safety help over the top. Fantastic, my only question is...Do they have the God given ability to make pastries too? Now that’s the test!

Last month, the parents of Mitch Mustain were one of the ones present for this all important Board of Directors gathering in Fayetteville. Trying to figure why offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn, who coached Mitch at Springdale High School in Arkansas, didn’t have more control of the offense? Makes sense right...For the past two seasons, I’m still trying to locate the Notre Dame defense. Trying to understand how was it that their son went 8-0 as a starter in 2006, helping Arkansas to a 10-4 season and a No. 15 national ranking, but geting benched in a November win over South Carolina, and hardly played again until splitting time with starter Casey Dick in Arkansas' Capital One Bowl loss to Wisconsin. I have two theories...One, when a team has a Nutt as a head coach and a Dick as a quarterback...Well, could there be any better way to market Razorback Football? I don’t think so. My second theory...Ever think, well, Casey Dick was a better fit than you Mitch? I know that may be difficult for you to understand seeing as how your parents have to stick up for you and fight your battles! Let me guess, the Arkansas recruiters lied to you...Now lets go tell mommy and daddy! Um, I know you’re only a freshman, but have you ever heard of "Coaches have open door policies"...I believe Coach Nutt just may have had one of those? Did you take advantage of it? To go sit down and talk things out with the Nuttster...To get things out in the open? Of course not....You just went to your parents and threw temper tantrums like a five-year old would rather than standing up on your own two feet like a real man would! Or a least how a starting quarterback would! See leaders of a college football team, well they just don’t behave like they’re still playing at the pee-wee level and cry out for parents...Which we can see, you still are!

So after Gus Malzahn left Arkansas this week to become assistant head coach and co-offensive coordinator at Tulsa what was crybaby Mitch to do? Seeing as how the only person on campus in Fayetteville didn’t call you a spoiled, whining, little brat...The only one who didn’t make you run back to your dorm room and shed all those tears in private, rather than public. That’s right follow in Gus’s footsteps so to speak.. Mustain was given permission to transfer, coach Houston Nutt said Tuesday.Nutt said Tuesday that Mustain had asked for and been granted his release. Nutt appeared to be holding out hope that the freshman would decide to stay at Arkansas. "Naturally, I don't want him to go. I want him to stay here." Hey CH-Nutt, why on earth would you want this to stay around your program anyway? Look, it was clear your cry baby quarterback was out for himself all along...Never really buying into the team concept...Never really giving a shit what kind of year you guys really had! Shit, you guys had a hell of a run this past season winning 10 straight games at one point -- but the warm feelings from that stretch have been overshadowed lately.

As the Razorbacks prepared for their bowl, Nutt was still being asked about the PTA meeting controversy surrounding his team. H-Nutt, you don’t need unneeded stress in your life...It’s not worth it to be questioned and virtually backstabbed by a player and his parents..I give a shit if he was the Parade magazine prep player of the year in 2005. Here’s my point... A recent book about Springdale's 2005 season shed more light on Mustain's recruitment. According to the book, while he was considering which school to go to, Mustain questioned the sophistication of Arkansas' offense. He also made an off-the-cuff comment after Nutt took credit for a play call following an Arkansas win. The quarterback said Arkansas "would have a better chance of getting me" if Nutt was fired. Oh yeah, lets not forget to mention the fact that Mitch likes to stretch the truth too...Talks out both sides of his cake hole! On Jan. 16, 2006, just yesterday Mustain told a newspaper he would play for the Razorbacks. Sounds like a player anybody would love to have on their team, doesn’t it? He’s just a white, younger version of Terrell Owens! We always talk about how much "up side" a player has...Well Coach Nutt, do you really need it that bad? I think Bill Parcells might tend to say cut your losses...Too bad he can’t!

I suppose all that’s left to say is, I hope Tulsa enjoys their new quarterback in Mitch Mustain...He’s a real team player! I mean, that’s only a guess...Although this is only an assumption, I could be wrong, but seeing as since Mustain can’t seem to think for himself and likes to follow Gus Malzahn around like a lost little puppy...One can see this is most likely a foregone conclusion! If a one legged duck swims in a circle, than Mitch Mustain will end up landing in Tulsa!

Vote in LastRowSports.com Pick’em Poll this week which asks about “Super Sunday South Beach Showdown? To find out you're choices you have to go to the home page and find out…You’ll be glad you did! Let’s just say voting in this poll is a whole heck of a lot easier than doing that whole “Lights Out” dance bit NOTE: This isn’t a scientific poll, however by not voting in this non-scientific poll we’ll assume that you would rather mock Shawne Merriman, however be careful...You might been seen as “disrespectful”?

Good write, LastRow. It's mindblowing how often this happens in college sports. College QB today, Arizona State baseball tomorrow, on and on.

That's absolutely pathetic. Way to abandon your team, your fans, and yourself.

Gimme a break guys, he's a freshman quarterback, they transfer all the time. What about the Texas quarterback that transferred to Ole Miss after Colt McCoy got all the time. Casey Dick was a sophomore starting in front of him, maybe he didn't want to ride the pine the next two years. Maybe he didn't like the offense, or he actually didn't like the coaching staff. He can transfer if he wants, you guys are reacting ridiculously. It's his future he has to worry about, not Houston Nutt's.
