This is where I draw the line. I have spent 4-days (albeit two of them were snowed in days) sitting in front of a computer checking countless websites, and watching a number of hours of television just to see if the Twins were trading Johan Santana. What has happened over the week of speculation? Well…the White Sox acquired a new LF (Carlos Quentin), the Kansas City Royals signed a big bat (Jose Guillen), the Indians are pretty much set and the Tigers just made a huge splash by trading for Dontrelle Willis and Miguel Cabrera. That pretty much makes them the favorite in baseball (until the Red Sox get Santana).
Is it fair? I think not. Twins and Red Sox fans for that matter have been engaged in rumors, and the Tigers just jump in and make the biggest trade of the off-season. They have almost made the Twins a nothing again. At least the Twins were getting talked about…something we should cherish because they may play more like the Minnesota Timberwolves than the Wild.
I have my opinions. I would love to see Lester and Ellsbury in Minnesota more than Hughes and Cabrera, but I also like Ian Kennedy. I actually would love to see Brandon Wood, Jared Weaver, Howie Kendrick, Dallas McPheresonand Nick Adenhart in Minnesota more than either of those trades. But, I am pretty sure I would really like to see Matt Kemp, Clayton Kershaw, Andy LaRoche and Jon Broxton just as much as seeing those Angels in Twins uniforms. When it happens…it will happen and me sitting around won’t impact that.
So here it is MARK my words. I will no longer talk about the Johan Santana trade possibilities until a deal is finally completed, if it is at all. You may see me speculate on Joe Nathan or other moves but nothing on Johan.
Don’t Blog That: Steve Phillips spent too much time in the tanning booth this off-season.
