Flyers could be Dangerous!!

First off, I would like to say this is my first posting on Armchairgm, so hopefuly I can produce with this unlike Pat Burrell does with runners in scoring position. Now that notwithstanding, I know that we are right in the middle of baseball season with the 2nd half now underway and the push for the playoffs heat up. With NFL training camp starting in a little over 2 weeks, I don't want to skate too far away from those two hotbeds.

But if I may just for this article move off the green grass and into the rink for a moment please? Great, I'd knew you would like that idea. I am a huge NHL and Philadelphia Flyers fan and to see this team go from the worst in the NHL to possibly one of the top 3 teams in the Eastern Conf. is simply mesmorizing to me. They have absolutely have made the biggest splash in the offseason in the league in maybe 5 years. Now everyone who reads my articles will soon realize that I am harsh and realistic about my Philly teams! The Flyers were downright horrible last year, the worst since their start in 1967. As a fan, it was horrific to sit and watch every pitiful game they lost, which was to many that I want to look back on.

They have completly revamped their team, with speed, experience, and most of all leadership. For the first time in probably 10 years, this team now has three significant lines that can be dangerous. The signing of Briere was of course the most important, this guy is simply amazing, enough said. Then they sign Hartnell and Timmonen from Nashville, then go and get Lupol and Smyth from Edmonton. They finally kick Joni Pitkanen to the street which had to be done a long time ago!

This team who also don't forget has Scottie Upshall from last years Forsberg trade. The Flyers are now and once again a force to be reckoned with in the Eastern Conference, their scary good on both ends of the ice, and it could be a great year for Flyer fans. Extreme props to the new GM Paul Holmgren, he's no cheerleader, but he sure as heck is a major step up from the old ball of enthusiasm Bobby Clarke!

Enjoy Flyers fans, only about 2 months until training camp! Thanks for reading my first posting, many more to come about Fantasy Football, and the dumbells themselves, the Philadelphia Phillies!

Chris

Ahh, another Phillie fan. And with a sense of humor. Come to think of it, you have to have a sense of humor to be a Phillie fan. Or live there. Welcome.

Welcome aboard. Unfortunately for you, best finish for the Flyers is 3rd (and probably 4th place) in the division. There's no way they've improved past the Rangers and Pens, and with Brodeur still around, passing the Devils is going to be hard. On the bright side for you, the Isles have already secured last place.

Flyers are my favorite team in hockey and the sport, if played right, is my favorite sport.

With that said, lets hold off on proclaiming the Flyers a dangerous team. Unless, when you say dangerous as meaning dangerous to fall apart again this upcoming season.

The schedule maker for the NHL did not give the Flyers an easy start. Three raod games to start the season. All three games are in western Cananda. The Flyers come home for 4 games, then embark on an 8 game road trip.

Hence, 11 of the first 15 games are on the road for the Flyers. This is with a team that was just plain awful last year and will have at least 9 new players on its opening day roster.

After that, you have to have some concern about the defense still, and the goaltending. I may be the only one to make this reference, but Martin Biron reminds me a lot about Bob Frose from the 1980;s. Frose was the backup goalie on the Cup contending Flyers, but wanted to be the starting goalie. Hence, he got traded away - to the Rangers. He never won anything with the Rangers, and the same may be true for Biron with the Flyers.

Oh yeah, there also has to be concern about the coach. Stevens is a nice guy, but I don't know if he is the right coach for this team, at this time.
