Flaherty Retires

6
Vote

Boston Red Sox catcher John Flaherty, formerly of the New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Devil Rays, announced his retirement today after a 14-year-career. The 38-year old Flaherty gave no reason for his decision to retire barely three months after signing with the Red Sox as a free agent. Flaherty, who was drafted by the Red Sox in 1988 and played 48 games there before being traded to Detroit for Rich Rowland, was competing for the backup spot with Josh Bard and Ken Huckaby. One of those two players will likely become Boston's backup catcher and knuckleballer Tim Wakefield's personal catcher.

That signing was a waste of time and money.

They wanted the Yankees to have to change their signs.
