SIXTH IN A SERIES
It sure looks like the Philadelphia Phillies want to reach the magical 10,000 loss mark before the 2007 MLB All-Star break begins. Once again, the Phillies lost to the New York Mets yesterday. This time, the score was 8-3.
The Phillies starting pitcher was none other than J.A. Happ. If you ask yourself, “Who?”, after reading that name, you are not the only one. Happ was making his major league debut yesterday. The first bad omen of what to come was if you looked at his statistics from Triple A this year. He has recorded ten no decisions this year. How can you record 10 no decisions?
Well, a quick answer would be that Happ gives up three runs in the first inning and pitches only through the fourth inning. This is what Happ did. Nonetheless, it was enough for the Mets to get ahead and stay ahead.
It hurts for me to say this, but you have to give some mad props to Carlos Beltran of the Mets. In the past two games against the Phillies, Beltran was belted four home runs. He has simply become the daddy to the Phillies pitching staff, especially the starters.
The Phillies will try and prevent being swept and losing number 9,996 in franchise history today. Again, the Phillies are starting a pitcher who is a rookie. This time, it is Kyle Kendrick. The Phillies may have some hope, however, in winning today. The Mets original starter has been scratched. In his place, Mike Pelfrey, he with the 0-5 record this season, gets the ball for the Mets.
If the pattern holds true, Pelfrey will get his first win of the season, and I will be writing the next installment in this series.

The Chair is the worse of the awards. It would be best, for the Phillies fans, if we could actually put Phillies management both past and present in a real chair!
Ole Sparky would not be loved more so that night!
