Finding the Next Marques Colston

by Allan.Woodstrom

Marques Colston came out nowhere to become one of the top wide receivers in the league last year. I’m not trying to boost my ego, but I did pick him up after week one last year. He along with another free agent pickup named Maurice Drew-Jones lead me to the promise land.

As I begin a new season this year, I’ll be looking for the next Marques Colston. Here is what I’ll be looking for:

· A guy who has an unexpectedly big week early in the season.

· A guy on a great offense or with a great offensive coordinator.

· And finally a guy who gets plenty of playing time.

Many fantasy drafters think they already found that guy in Vincent Jackson of the San Diego Chargers. I think they could be right, but I also think there might be a guy lurking on a team like Atlanta – think Bobby Petrino – and Carolina – someone needs to take Keyshawn Johnson’s production.

As for finding the next Marques Colston, watch as many games as you can week one and don’t be afraid to make some transactions.

The guy I've watching is Logan Payne, WR, Seattle Seahawks. Apparently he had a heck of a camp for an UDFA and could make an impact.

Isn't DJ Hackett supposed to have a big year? I haven't had any drafts yet, so I don't know where he's going in them, but I thought he was supposed to be a big deal this year. I honestly don't follow the Seahawks at all, so I haven't heard of Payne, but I tried to learn my lesson about UDFA's who have big preseasons after seeing Jason Carter tear it up last year for the Vikings and getting my hopes up for him, only to have him not even make the team...

Dr. Patriot- Logan Payne was a great big wide receiver for the University of Minnesota, which is where I am from. I remember he had all of the physical tools, except becuase he was about 6'6" or 6'7", he wasn't exactly blazing down the field. Interesting pick up though.

Small town Pillager- DJ Hackett is supposed to have a good year too. He had some good games after Darrell Jackson got hurt last year. Now with Jackson on the 49ers, many people are high on Hackett.

As for Jason Carter- I remember when the Vikings let him go after he had one of the best preseasons of all the wide receivers. They must have known something about him we didn't becuase all indications were that he should have had a spot on the team.
