Name: Tim Tebow
School: University of Florida
Position: Quarterback
Tim Tebow is one of the most feared quarterbacks of college football right now. His performances in the past 2 games already have him high in the race for the Heisman Trophy.
Last season Tim played as the back-up for Florida’s main QB Chris Leak. Even as a back-up, Tim played an integral role in making the Gators National Champions. Tim has a great passing arm plus the ability to scramble, so he makes it hard for defenses. Last year he threw for 5 touchdowns and rushed for 8. If he did that last year as a back-up without much playing time, imagine what he will do this year as a starter.
This year, after only 3 games, he has already passed for over 800 yards and 8 touchdowns and ran for almost 200 yards and 5 touchdowns. The Gators have dominated their opponents so far this year and look to be making a good attempt at repeating last years National Championship. As long as Tim Tebow is taking the snaps, they have a chance.
Some interesting facts about Tim Tebow: -- Tim was born in 1987 in the Philippines where his parents were serving as Christian missionaries. -- Tim was homeschooled by his mother but was able to play QB at a public high school in Ponte Vedra Beach (which was a minor controversy at the time). -- Tim has become the poster boy for homeschooled children playing sports at public high schools. Tim’s popularity inspired "equal access" supporters in Alabama to name their bill in the Alabama Legislature "The Tim Tebow Bill". The bill is still in the works, but if passed it will allow Alabama home-school athletes to play for their local high school teams. -- Tim finished high school with 9,810 passing yards, 3,186 rushing yards, 95 passing touchdowns and 62 rushing touchdowns (WOW!). -- A lot of people in the college sports nation call him Superman (see the picture).
