Roddy White will be entering his second season in the NFL in 2006, but he will be looking to be the No. 1 receiver in the Falcons offense and a factor on your fantasy football team. From all indications, White has been working diligently this offseason to become the go-to wideout on the Falcons offense. Reports have him spending endless hours in the weight room and film room this offseason preparing for training camp and the eventual 2006 season.
White had a decent showing as a rookie in the Falcons offense in his rookie season, registering 29 catches for 446 yards and 3 TDs after fighting through a contract holdout and some early season ankle problems. Once White was healthy and assimilated himself into the Falcons offense, he made a nice contribution as a rookie could. He possesses very good speed, solid size(6-0, 208lbs.) and reliable hands. Most of his offseason work has concentrated on adding some bulk onto his frame which should help him get open by getting better releases off of the line of scrimmage.
Our take on Roddy is that while he is making good progress and should put up better number in 2006 than he did in his rookie season, don't get too excited about his potential. He is still on the Falcons and that means his opportunities to make big plays in the passing game may be limited. The Falcons are a run-first offense and we don't think that is going to change any time soon. Michael Vick has shown a reluctance in the past in throwing to his wideouts, choosing to dump the ball off more to his Pro Bowl tight end, Alge Crumpler. While White may very well become the Falcons No. 1 receiver in the offense, he still won't be a fantasy stud. There is potential there though and if you can get him as a mid to late round pick, we suggest you go for it. Just don't go grabbing this guy with one of you first 10 picks in your draft. While he may be the No. 1 wideout on the Falcons offense, he may only be good enough to be your 3rd or 4th best wideout on your fantasy team.
