Fantasy Football Geekly: Week 9

I don't know about you but, week 8 was very roller coaster-ish for me. Because of either stupidy or just plain guessing wrong, a lot of my teams were very close. For those of you who followed some of my advice and lost because of it, I appologize now. As painfull as it's going to be, let's just go over a few items that happened last week.
- I predicted that Chad Pennington should have a good game. I was way off on this. He only had 108 yrds passing with no TD's. OUCH!
- Travis Henry only rushed for 29 yrds. Another prediction I was off on.
- Damn you Desmond Clark!! NOW you have a great game! Had you benched in 3 leagues!! See what I mean by stupidity? I'm not gonna make that mistake again. In leagues I have him, he's starting the rest of the year! (lol)
See, when I'm wrong, I own it & man up :) By no means am I any kind of expert... I'm just a huge fantasy player that loves to write & try to help where I can (must be that teacher in me - yes, I am a former teacher). Besides, are the 'experts' really experts? If they are, they all better not have any losses in thier fantasy teams (lol).
As for my leagues though, I went 11-5 in 16 leagues and my overall is still a combined 82-45-1 (.635 PCT) down to just 1 undefeated team left. Enough about me, let's move on to this weeks report.
Tick toc, tick toc... why is there the sound of a clock here? Remember what I said last week about thinking about your playoff roster?? Well... the clock is still ticking. That was just your friendly neighborhood reminder.
Week 9 is going to be VERY interesting for us fantasy players. There's a few games that are really worth watching closely. The first game offhand is of course:
- Colts at Pats - who's the best QB? The best offensive juggernaut? I bet A LOT of fantasy teams will be riding on this game! The only thing I can reccomend here - start ALL players on the offensive side for both teams while benching the defenses. With the possiblity of a lot of points scored (just because Brady is Brady and Manning is Manning), you're not going to get many points for the defense unless you get return yardage.
- Raiders at Seattle - Why is this one worth watching? Well after the way the Oakland defense handled the Steelers, it's going to be very interesting to see how they handle the new look (for now) of the Seahawks. Start Seneca Wallace, Deion Branch & Oakland defense.
- Bengals at Ravens - Over the last 3 games with the Ravens, the Bengals have scored 27, 21 and 42 points. This is great news for owners of any Bengals player. On the flip side, Steve McNair and the rest of Baltimores offense has been solid. Expect a high scoring little defense game.
Injury Report
- Shaun Alexander - Tests revealed on Monday that there is a small crack that remains in his foot and will not be playing week 9. His return has now been extended until Nov. 12 (week 10).
- Santana Moss - Strained left hamstring. He did not practice on Monday. When asked why he sat out of practice, Moss responded with "If you go out and try to be Superman, you can prolong the healing process. I don't want to do that. I really don't want to miss Sunday, but I don't want to miss any Sunday". Moss is just being cautious due to experience with previous hamstring injuries. He's listed as questionable but monitor his status closely.
UPDATE-- Moss didn't practice Wednesday, and is still very questionable to play. His teammate Clinton Portis practiced Wednesday, and is expected to start Sunday vs. the Dallas Cowboys. Joebook
- Chris Simms - It's offical... he's done for the year.
- LaMont Jordan - Still listed as questionable with his back. If he's unable to go, pick up Justin Fargas.
Play Em
- Michael Vick - 2 straight weeks of 3 TD's... against a poor secondary of Detroit, you have to like his chances to put up some big numbers. Quick question - when did Vick learn how to throw? (lol)
- Desmond Clark - We all know about Thomas Jones, Bernard Berrian, Rex Grossman but now after last weeks big game against the 49ers, if this guy is not a household name by now, he should be. Week 9 the Bears face the Fins, while Clark may not score twice, I see him hitting pay dirt once with good yardage.
- Tony Romo - I think now Tony has solitified himself as the number 1 QB in Dallas. He goes against a rival Washington team. I like his chances here. Romo was able to dismantle a Carolina defense, it's safe to say he just might do the same here.
- Eddie Kennison - He exploded for 132 yrds against Seattle in week 8. Week 9, the Chiefs play the Rams, I like this matchup with Kennison as a #3 WR.
- Lee Evans - The Packers have a secondary that can be lit up at times. This bodes very well for Evans who could come out of this with close to 100 yrds and a score.
Sit Em
- Ben Roethlisberger - After that abismal performance against the Raiders, right now, he might be hurting the team more than he's helping. Yes, he threw for 300yrds... but come on -- 4 INT's 2 of them for TD's for OAKLAND!? Coach Cower may bench Ben and you should too.
- The ENTIRE Miami Dolphins team. Not a single player is worth starting this week. Yes, the Fins are a little bit better than the 49ers but in all honesty, not by much. The Dolphins will and SHOULD get dismantled as bad as the 49ers.
- Travis Henry - jacksonville's run defense has been solid as of late. This does not look like good matchup for Henry.
Waiver Wire
- Tony Romo - There's a good chance that he's available in your league. If he is, grab him. Dallas plays Washington (week 9), Arizona (week 10), Tampa Bay (week 12), New Orleans (week 14), Eagles (week 16) & Detroit (week 17). I can see big numbers for the more agile Dallas QB in the next few weeks.
- Jerious Norwood - This Falcons backup RB has 321 rushing yards for the year. But in games were Dunn will probably be sitting a lot due to blow outs, Norwood isn't a bad low end 2RB or high 3RB in some leagues. The Falcons play Detroit (week 9), Cleveland (week 10), New Orleans (week 12), Washington (week 13) & Tampa Bay (week 14).
- Michael Jenkins - Another Atlanta player, this time at WR. Now that Vick has finally got a passing game, Jenkins would not be a bad 3rd WR or flex option coming down the stretch. I wouldn't bet my whole team on him - BUT he could help.
- Leon Washington - It appears that Leon will be the primary ball carrier for the Jets. While he might not be the best, he's still a solid #3 RB or flex option pick. Up and coming games - Hou (week 12), Green Bay (week 13), Miami (week 16) & Oakland (week 17). 4 more chances for some great production/points.
- Mike Bell - With a toe injury limiting Tatum Bell in week 8, Mike rushed for 135 yrds & 2 TD's. While Tatum might not miss any time, it's quiet possible that Mike could still emerge as the starter. For now, he's probably going to get the bulk of the carries even if Tatum starts. as of right now, Mike Bell is only owned in 58% of CBS Sportsline teams.
- Brandon Jacobs - With Tiki Barber now "offically" retiring at the end of this year, Brandon is worth adding on keeper leagues. He can also help this year too - as evidenced by his 4 TD's The Giants will probably work him in short yardage situations. Week 9, the Giants play Houston, this could be a good game for Brandon.
Bye Week Teams
Jets, Eagles, Arizona & Carolina
