Fantasy Football Geekly: Week 4

In this week's installment, I'm going to try something a little different... want to attempt to do a "show" if you want to call it that... after my rumblings & stumblings of around the fantasy world of the NFL, I'm more than willing to help any & all questions as possible for your fantasy football team. My fantasy world update - 16 leagues... overall 30-17-1 (5 leagues 3-0 including the AmchairGM league). Now to get back on track, First up - as always:

Injury Report

  • Chris Simms - if you haven't dropped him by now, you should. Emergency surgery will keep him out a minimum of 4 weeks but I'm expecting he'll be out the rest of the season.
  • Shaun Alexander - Out indefinately for a broken foot. Original reports said he'll only be out for 2 weeks but have later revised it to indefinately. The Madden curse strikes again! Update: Now it appears that it may not be a broken foot (read comments below) and is listed as doubtful. With conflciting reports, I would bench Shaun, at least for this week. In week 5 Sea has a bye so we'll see where everything stands (pardon the pun) for week 6 when Sea goes against St. Louis.
  • Chris Brown - His turf toe problem seems to be sticking around. He's questionable for week 4.
  • Travis Henry - Yet another Ten RB with a toe issue. He's also questionable for week 4.
  • Brian Westbrook - Knee inflamation. While he had the same problem as last week but ended up lighting it up for 117 yds & 2 TD's, he's officially still listed as questionable. Only thing I can reccomend here is - go with your gut feeling.
  • Donte Stallworth - This one killed me last week and he still has a problem with his hamstring. Officially listed as questionable. If out, expect L.J. Smith & Reggie Brown to get more passes thrown thier way.
  • Frank Gore - Strained adominal muscles. According to the 49ers site, he's listed as day-to-day and there have been conflicting reports on if he's going to play in week 4 or not. Monitor this situation carefully.
  • Vernon Davis - The same play that took out Gore, also took out Davis. While trying to recover Gore's fumble, Davis fell and heard his leg break. He's out at least 4 weeks.

Play Em

  • Drew Bledsoe - Going against a weak Tennessee team.
  • Charlie Frye - After going 21-33 298 yrds 1 TD against a very tough Baltimore defense, just imagine what he could do against the defense of the Oakland Raiders wait, do they even have a defense?? With byes weeks going on, if you need a QB, Frye would not be that bad of a pickup.
  • Maurice Morris - With Alexander out, Morris will be the primary ball carrier.
  • Ron Dayne - It appears Dayne has won the starting role. Going against a poor run defense of Miami, this could be an break out game.
  • Daunte Culpepper - Granted he didn't have that great of a game last week (17-26 198 yrds), he's worth another shot going against Houston.
  • Roy Williams - After last weeks blow up against a weak GB def, expect close to the same numbers here against St. Louis.

Sit Em

  • Wali Lundy - With Ron Dayne in the picture at starter, unless something VERY drastic happens between now & Sunday, it's time to drop the ineffective RB. I know I have.
  • Robert Ferguson - Now that he's lost the number 2 spot to Greg Jennings, it's time to let Ferguson go. Would only except larger rosters or leagues to even have this one in a lineup anyways - but hey, you never know.
  • Dennis Northcutt - with Braylon Edwards and Kellen Winslow seeing more touches, Northcutts value has dramitcally dropped. It'll be even worse when Joe Jurevicius finally returns to action.
  • Keary Colbert - Now that Steve Smith is back, Colbert drops back down to a number 4 WR behind Smith, Keyshawn Johnson & Drew Carter.

Waiver Wire

  • LeDale White - With Brown & Henry having toe issues, White appears to have the starting job. Expect him to be the primary RB in week 4 against Dallas.
  • Maurice Morris - If he isn't claied by now in your league, pick him up asap!
  • Eric Johnson - With Vernon Davis now out, Johnson becomes the nuber 1 TE. Yes Johnson can be an injury risk but he can also be just as productive in catches as Antonio Bryant.
  • Reche Caldwell - With Chad Jackson out to a hamstring problem, Caldwell can be a nice addition to leagues with a flex option.

Questions

Now onto the questions format for this week. I'll answer questions 3 ways. You can either type a question in the comments section, IM me through Yahoo IM - my ID is xdemonboy or through Meebo. simply follow the instuctions underneath the box below. I'll try and answer as any as I can tonight. Will probably stop around 9pm EST on Wed (9/27). I'll make an edit to this page with the questions & answers that were asked to me in Yahoo & Meebo.

Feel free to use the above to chat with me in real-time. Please replace the automatically-produced nickname with your ArmchairGM user name, so I know who I'm talking to. Thanks! (You can click here for full-screen chat.)

dude... read every major sports site right now... they are all saying his foot might not be broken. he showed up at practice today and was hopping up and down on it, and told Holmgren he wanted to play.

I've looked on CBS Sportsline, Yahoo, Fox Sports, ESPN & even the Seahawks site - I haven't been able to find anything. even IF he does play (which I doubt), it will be at most, very limited carries with Morris getting 90% of the touches.

Finally I just found something - it was JUST POSTED on CBS Sportsline: Alexander walked into Seahawks headquarters Wednesday morning not wearing the plastic boot that was supposed to protect the break in his left foot. Just as Holmgren began berating his 2005 league rushing champion, Alexander told him he felt great. Alexander even began "jumping around" on his foot, according to the coach. Alexander would still need medical clearance to play, but the most telling sign of his status is that he's officially listed as 'doubtful' on the injury report, not 'out.' Alexander's Fantasy owners may want to join their stud RB in prayer since if he does suit up, he'll be of use despite playing the Bears. For now, continue to consider Maurice Morris the starting tailback for Seattle in Week 4.

I still go by my original thought on this.

I am going on record and saying I think Mo will havea good game. Look at the Bears/GB games. The Bears defensive plan was to shut down Favre and the passing game allowing Ahman to run for 100 yards. Why won't that work here. With 4 solid recievers and no more MVP, Rivera and Lovie will be scheming to shut down Hasselback. This could open up some running room for Mo, and also maybe a few quick screens. I say he comes close to 80 yards and the chance of a TD is 65%. If you have a better matchup, take it, but I am starting Mo with confidence this week.
