Week 9 was. how should I say........ interesting!? To say the least - it displayed the good, the bad and the UGLY! Quick recap - first -
The Good:
Ronnie Brown - Goes off huge for 190 total yards...
Ben Roethlisberger - 433 yrds 1 TD... guess that loss to Oakland got inside his head & he just exploded...
Tony Romo - 284 yrds & 2 TD's...
The Bad:
Bill Parcells - What in the world made you try to go for a 2pt conversion in the SECOND QUARTER?? That decision cost you the game! No matter what that little 2 point conversion playbook calls for, don't even think about using it until the FOURTH QUARTER!
The UGLY:
Chicago Bears - How can you lose to Miami??? I can see if it was the Giants or the Patriots that gave you your 1st loss... but the DOLPHINS??? Wish I could've been a fly on the locker room wall when Lovie Smith's head just explodes!
Now entering week 10, leagues are getting to the point where every win is a must win... it should be every week but more now since we're getting into the final 1/3 or even 1/4 of the season before playoffs.
I don't know about your league, but in several of mine, there have been a lot of trades going on. Almost like they're about to be a shortage of them. Get involved... more & likely either this week or next is the trade deadline.
You shuld also start thinking about doing what I call - condensing of your team. What do I mean by this? Well let's just say that in your league, you start 2 RB's & have 1 WR/RB flex position (making a max RB start of 3)... who are your top 3 RB? Look at those to be your main starters the rest of the year and have only 1 MAYBE 2 backups instead of those 3 or 4 you've been carrying all year. The rest of your RB's are probably players that see minimal time - dump em or trade em... why keep a player that has barely the point ave or worse on your team during the playoffs? He's not going to help you at this point anyways...
Likewise if you have let's say Brett Favre on your bench and your starter is Drew Brees - ride Brees the rest of the year and trade away Favre with maybe another player to improve your weakest position.
While having depth is great, it only really helps you during the regular season. The playoffs are a little different. Out of the 8 teams (out of 12) I had in the playoffs last year, I changed my lineup once MAYBE twice in total. I rode my starters the whole time during the playoffs.
As for my leagues though, I went 11-4-1 last week in 16 leagues and my overall is still a combined 93-49-2 (.637 PCT) down to just 1 undefeated team left.
Side note: NO MORE FREAKING TIES! I hate them! For now on, I'm creating the Demonboy rule - if the league has a no tiebreaker rule, I'm not joining it! Fantasy leagues should either be a win or a loss - no ties ESPECIALLY if money is involved!!
Injury Report
- Shaun Alexander - There is a slim chance that he may return in week 10. But don't count on that. Reality, he'll more & likely will be back in week 11.
- Matt Hasselbeck - Matt & Shaun must be tied at the hip. He too has a slim chance of coming back in week 10. However, reality does bite & he'll probably show his old baldy look in week 11.
- Willis McGahee - Back injury. Reported to be out for a few weeks.
UPDATE After further review, McGahee has at least one broken rib, and several other bruised ribs. He's out indefinitely and that makes Anthony Thomas an attractive free agent against the Colts, who have the worst run D in the NFL. Joebook
- Amani Toomer - Out for the season with knee injury.
- Joe Horn - Groin injury. Listed as questionable.
- Bernard Berrian - Ribs. Likely will miss a couple of weeks.
Play Em
Tony Romo - He's showing that he can carry the Dallas team very well. In week 9 he ranked up there in top fantasy QB's for the week throwing for 284 yrds & 2 TD's. In week 10, Dallas plays the bad pass defense of the Cards. Romo should put up siilar numbers here.
Mike Furrey - The 49ers come to town in week 10. This is good news for this slot reciever. San Fran is the 7th worst pass defense and has allowed the 2nd most passing TD's in the league. Furrey & Roy Williams must both be salivating at this opportunity.
Roy Williams - Speaking of him, he is a must start this week along with every week! He's turning into the receiver that everyone has hoped. He's had 4 games of 130+ yrds per game this season... oh by the way, did I mention in the last 8 home games, he's had 8 TD's?? Do the math (lol)
Maurice Morris - Against the Rams, this should be a good matchup. After last weeks performance, hopefully Holmgren has learned that Morris needs the ball 25-30 times a game. With St. Louis bad on the run defense, Morris is a good #2 or high #3 RB.
Anthony Thomas - Willis McGahee will be out for the next few weeks. This is great news for Thomas. After rushing for 95 yrds & 1 TD against Green Bay, he may be able to put up better number against a very bad rush defense of the Colts in week 10 and follow that up against Houston in week 11. Strong #2 or low-end #1 RB this week and next.
Sit Em
Reuben Droughns - No offensive line = no thanx. Pass on him. Will get MAYBE 65 yrds with no TD's.
Rex Grossman - The Bears will suffer their second loss of the season here. With Berrian out, it'll be easy to stop Muhammad leaving Desmond Clark as the only threat. I see possibly 170 yrds 1 TD but the New York Giants defense should get a hold of Rex 4 times.
Larry Fitzgerald - Yes he's back and Arizona Cardinal fans have been waiting too long for this. But, give him a least a week to work out the cobwebs.
Waiver Wire
- Tony Romo - There's a good chance that he's available in your league. If he is, grab him. Dallas plays Arizona (week 10), Tampa Bay (week 12), New Orleans (week 14), Eagles (week 16) & Detroit (week 17).
- Leon Washington - It appears that Leon will be the primary ball carrier for the Jets. While he might not be the best, he's still a solid #3 RB or flex option pick. Up and coming games - Hou (week 12), Green Bay (week 13), Miami (week 16) & Oakland (week 17). 4 more chances for some great production/points.
- Mike Bell - With a toe injury limiting Tatum Bell in week 8, Mike rushed for 135 yrds & 2 TD's. While Tatum might not miss any time, it's quiet possible that Mike could still emerge as the starter. For now, he's probably going to get the bulk of the carries even if Tatum starts.

Q: I'm in third place and got offered Roy Williams and Frank Gore for Rudi Johnson & Chad Johnson by the first place team. Should I make this trade?
A: HELL YES!!! Cincinnati is starting to go away from the run a bit. While this raises Chad & T.J.H.'s value somewhat, look for defenses to gear more towards a passing defense. On the other hand, Roy Williams has now 4 games of 130+ yrds with at least 1 score. Now with a better QB, he's starting to turn into the WR that Detroit has been looking for - Gore, well we all know what he can do. No matter what your team looked like before, this DRAMTICALLY improves your team. stop reading this article and accept that trade before the first place team changes thier mind!!!
