If he can turn this team into a playoff contender again, he's got my HOF vote.

I think he has mine even if he gives up homers to the All-HACKING-MASS team.

I just generally don't like the guy. Let the showering of negative votes from the Sox and Yankee fans commence.

Ya know, I'm not usually one for conspiracy theories, and I'm not saying this one holds water or anything, but we ARE just a few past 50 games...

IF he can turn them into a playoff team? They're already a playoff caliber team. They're much, much better than they were at this point of the season, making such an unlikely run unneccesary. They need a comeback, but their pitching has already exceeded expectations. Their hitting has been inconsistent, but it will get better as Garner gradually stops trying to make Preston Wilson seem like a smart pickup. Lidge is pitching better, and if Pettitte has a second half like he did last year, the addition of Clemens makes this team start to look awfully good.

Despite all of this, however, the deal is not final. Clemens' agent and the Astros GM are both denying the deal. However, I've always supposed that if Clemens pitched this year, it would only be for the Astros.

Gradually stops trying to make Preston Wilson seem like a smart pickup? In favor of WHO? Chris Burke and Orlando Palmeiro? Give me a break. There's a very good reason their hitting is inconsistent, it's because the team is filled with mediocre to decent hitters Willy Taveras and Adam Everett.

I always did think the "where will Clemens end up" thing was kinda silly. Houston was the only realistic option. Sure, Boston or New York would've been a good story, but the Astros are a team that can give him nearly the same amount of money, compete for a playoff spot, give him a chance to play in the same organization as his kid, and allow him to go back home to his family after the game.

There is not yet a deal; the Newsday report was wrong. See other article here on AGM
