FOX Sports, You Suck

I don't blame A-Rod for opting out of his contract with the Yankees. I can handle Ken Rosenthal's breaking news report, I cannot handle talking about it in a one run game in the clinching World Series game in the bottom of the 8th. The least Joe Buck could've said is "We'll have more on this on our post-game show but here, it's 4-3 and Papelbon is coming in". That's all he needed to do. The producer of the show (or the announcers if they had just felt like talking), totally wrecked the last inning of the season. What is the need to talk about someone who isn't in the World Series, DURING A CLOSE GAME???!!! That's beyond me, and could Buck sound anymore excited in this clip?

Totally a wreck by FOX Sports. It's not just baseball, it's football. The NFL on FOX is not only late on in-game updates, but those who had the Redskins/Patriots in the non-local team market, were still stuck with them although it was 52-0. Granted, the 49ers/Saints was 31-3, but that's still closer. CBS, please make a push to get baseball back to your network. Because another main reason I don't watch the World Series are Buck and McCrapbucket.

Rant over, article over, and the Red Sox are World Champs again.

We differ on the A-Rod opt out issue but agree 100% on the inappropriateness of Boras leaking the story over to FOX during the 8th inning of a WS clinching game.

It is worth noting that MLB has a strict rule imposed on its teams that all major press releases must receive prior approval during the WS.

Perhaps it is time for such a mandate be imposed on agents as well.

Joe Buck is absolute garbage for dumping on Mike Lowell (Series MVP at that) and suggesting that A-Hole take his place at third for Boston. All during the friggin' telecast.

Bullsh*t. Facking bullsh*t indeed.

Good article.

They can fine A-Rod. $1,000,000 will get the point across. Won't ever happen, but it should!

That was a total play by the ultimate media manipulater Scott Boras. He what he was doing, and he always wants his money man to be in the spotlight and he did exactly that. Fox did the right thing and covered the story as it unraveled. Dont worry the Sox will get their due, they still get to keep the World Series rings and trophy. No need to cry about it.

It's a historic achievement for a team that never won anything in 86 years, they win 2 in 4 years, and the 2nd one is marred by A-Rod.

Marred?...let me tell you...in boston, no one gave a crap about double-play-rod... Tim McCarver could have dropped a deuce on Janet Jackson's breast during the 7th inning stretch and bean town would still be beaming about their 2nd ring in 4 years...

Its not a big deal when that team is spending the second most in Baseball and they were without a doubt the best team in Baseball. The Sox did exactly what they were susposed to do

Heh...

I was talking to a buddy last night during the game...and i asked him...if you could remove one commentator in all of sports, who would it be...of course, he said McCarver...but then he kinda came to a epphifany...

Sports broadcasting has come to the point where the fans know as much and sometimes more than the announcers...i mean...look at AGM...it was essentially created by and for people who think (Or do?) know more about sports than professionals...

Announcers are going to need to find a new approach...i don't know the answer...but that's become the new quandry in all of sports...

I'd tie my removing one announcer vote with Joe McCarver and Joe Morgan. They're both equally moronic.

Fans USUALLY know more than the commentators, because they actually watch the games and then read sports articles between games. The commentators, especially for football, play golf or see sights all week and then show up having done VERY little homework on the teams they're about to cover. That's why players-turned-commentator spend so much time talking about themselves and their own experiences, and why everyone else spends the whole game talking about the two or three players mentioned in their press packets.

Leave it to Boston fans to win a World Series and still be bitching.

Hey, I'm still on cloud nine here. But there's something wrong when your random informed fan can do a better job at commentating than the guys getting paid the big bucks to do it. Is it so hard to TALK ABOUT THE ACTUAL GAME GOING ON??!?!?? That said, I don't think McCarver was as bad as he has been in the past, and they're a lot easier to stomach now that every other word out of their mouths isn't "Babe Ruth." However, I still think that I could do a much better job.

Baseball more than any other sport lends itself to having extra time during a game to talk about other topics. There is plenty of time between pitches that a broadcaster can sway his attention away from the game, and still be sure to give complete coverage and respect to the game.

Sorry the 07 series just didnt summon the emotions of the 04 series. Hell Id venture to say that outside Boston, the series was not a big deal to anyone else. It has barely gotten coverage here in DC.

The best part is that now instead of talking about last night's game, everyone is talking about those who are talking about the A-rod deal...

A break-in like that should hardly be a surprise. You're talking about sports coverage that routinely breaks in for stuff that has NOTHING to do with the game. Like in-game interviews during bowl games with coaches that are coaching in BCS bowls. Total crap, total waste of time. Or like the Monday Night football game between Dallas and Buffalo when they kept cutting away to the sideline reporter for comments about Thurman Thomas. I get tired of sportcasts thinking they have to do something to entertain people, like the game itself isn't enough.

I guess it's just frustrating that someone like Buck or McCarver, both clearly incompetent, have high-paying sports jobs whereas someone like me, an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and obsessive sports nut can barely hold down a temp job when I can clearly do their job better than they can.
