FOURPLAY - Candace Cameron

FOURPLAY
A daily dose of 4 sports videos...and a sports wife.

Saturday, November 24, 2007

Today we have Willie Mays' over-the-shoulder catch in the World Series, a hockey goal (into the wrong net), Jim Rome getting his butt kicked when he gets Jim Everett's name wrong, and a Terry Tate, office linebacker commercial .

And today's featured sports wife is Candace Cameron, Valeri Bure's wife.

1. a great play
3. a blooper
2. an awkward interview
4. a commercial
...and a sports wife

I really like Jim Rome's radio show, but that video of him versus Jim Everett was pretty funny.

How have I never seen that Terry Tate commercial? That was HILARIOUS! I also love seeing Jim Everett get after Jim Rome. That dude's made a career out of being a douche. I wish more people would call him out. I think that ESPN giving him credibility by giving him time on their airwaves is just an embarrassment.

So Jim Rome is annoying sometimes. He's funny a lot more often than he's annoying.

I disagree. I mostly just find him annoying. Especially on his radio show. How many times do you have to tell a joke? He takes something moderately funny, and drives it into the ground for about 30 minutes straight.

He might talk about it for thirty minutes, but he isn't too repetitive and he doesn't drive it into the ground.

Agreed on not liking Jim Rome, I'm in his home market and he is intolerable. Seriously, who makes dramatic pauses on the radio? He rants about sports and subjects he's mostly iggnorant about and the majority of his jokes, when he's not trying to be Dennis Miller, are a play on words, simple play-on-words. You know I usually only use this for DM and Dane Cook, but it applies to Jim Rome as well
? This user is unimpressed by what Dennis Miller thinks is funny.

You have to listen to Jim Rome for a few weeks. After that, if you still don't like him, it's your fault, not his.

WHAT!? It's his job to entertain, not my duty to BE entertained regardless of the sophomoric nonsense that dribbles out of his greasy mouth. He's not funny or original, and he's certainly got nothing interesting to say about sports.

By the way, I also like how he reads letters and then pretends to be offended like he didn't know what he was about to read on the air. He's just annoying.

Not saying you have to listen to him. I'm just saying that most people like him better after they've listened for a while.

I know, and I never accused you of saying that. But you did say that if I listen to him and don't like him, it's my problem and not his. And that's completely wrong. If I don't have a personal taste for someone, it's not MY problem. I just don't like them. It's not MY problem that I find a so-called sports figure to be un-funny, obnoxious, and not really that knowledgeable about sports. How in the world could that be my problem?

I was actually paraphrasing one of Jim Rome's comments. He says that nobody likes the show the first time they hear it, and that you need to give it a few weeks. Then if you still don't like it, he says to give it a few more weeks. Finally, if you still don't like it, he says you've got a problem. I know I thought the show was stupid a few years ago, but I like it a lot better now. It's just a different type of show that requires some getting used to. The emails are often entertaining, and his rants are sometimes funny as well (like his diatribe against "Softball Guy").

Bob Saget should sue the show for wrecking his image. He's hilarious in real life. He's a totally irreverent comedian. What you see on the show is not at all what he's like in real life.

ASwaff is 100% correct. Saget is fackin' hilarious and can be disgustingly dirty with his humor in person - also a Temple Owl.

Sure he sold out and maximized his usage as a flavorless mouthpiece but he made a boatload of money doing it. If you're gonna sell out, might as well get paid and play a big joke on the whole world by portraying squeeky cleanness when you're really a filthy facker...

Full House wasn't a show for adults, it was a kids show. And I can think of dozens of "whiter shows" that were on TV.

Don't let other people's perceptions fool you. Unless you're a fool, that is.

I'm going with Manny on this one. Tyrone must of never been subjected to F-R-I-E-N-D-S... The only show based in Downtown New York and contains no blacks, mexicans, Ricans, Cubans or Asians? Not even working the counters or driving the cabs or serving tables? Come on! They even had a SOUP NAZI!!!! But no niggas, wetbacks or japs? They can insult Germans but they can't insult actual minorites? That's the whitest thing ever, so white, we won't even insult minorites.

Episode#2 should've been the one with Chandler hooking his entire klan of white NY yuppies on meth, all passed out in the living room with Joey forgetting to turn off the gas to the stove. Then have the Law&Order crew determine if it was homicide or a cult suicide. You see - this shit practically writes itself. And spare everyone about 10 years of a crappy sitcom.

While I'll totally admit that Friends and Seinfeld were both very white shows and hardly ground breaking on the race front, if you think that those shows contained no minorities, you didn't watch it enough. They didn't play a central role, true, but there were appearances by people of numerous ethnic backgrounds. And the Soup Nazi wasn't making fun of Germans. It was just a nickname. The Soup Nazi was Arabic.
