Sydney, AUSTRALIA - The president of FIFA, Sepp Blatter, has apologized to Australian soccer fans for the Socceroos 2nd-round loss in this year's 2006 FIFA World Cup, saying that Australia deserved to beat eventual World Champions Italy.
Australia was eliminated from the tournament in the first knockout round after Italy was awarded a dubious penalty in the final minutes of additional time after Italian Fabio Grosso dived in the penalty box after a blocking challenge by Australian defender Lucas Neill.
