The WNBA announced that Atlanta would get a new expansion club coming in 2008. It is most likely the team will be called the Hawks. Anyway, it's good that the WNBA is trying to do something to get the attention of Manny Stiles.
As for the Arena Football League, they have announced that the Las Vegas Gladiators are headed for Cleveland, also in 2008. Although the team is going to be relocated, the possibility of a new Las Vegas franchise is possible. According to the Las Vegas Review Journal:
"AFL commissioner David Baker said Monday he hopes to bring the league back to Las Vegas in time for the projected 2010 opening of a 20,000-seat arena just off the Strip."
Now I'm going to take this into another perspective. Congrats to Vegas for getting rid of their crappy football team, and secondly, a 20,000 seat arena? Since I've never heard of an AFL only stadium, I'm wondering if David Stern is looking at this possibility for a new home for the Seattle Sonics should the city just give up on them.
Finally, the National Lacrosse League has canceled the 2007-08 season following a dispute over new contracts between the players and the guys who run the league.
Canceling league seasons for the sake of money, a proud American tradition. The NHL had 2 lockouts, NBA had 1 lockout, the NFL had 2 lockouts, and the MLB had 1 lockout. When Lacrosse enters the field, you know something is wrong.
So there is your news roundup about sports and leagues no one cares about.
