Born on October 23, 1922 in Fresno, California, Ewell Blackwell (Ewell Blackwell) played for the Cincinnati Reds, New York Yankees and Kansas City Athletics over the course of his 10 year career. Blackwell broke into the bigs on April 21, 1942 with the Cincinnati Reds, and put up a 2.45 ERA in 194.1 innings pitched in 1946, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Ewell Blackwell's best season was 1947, when he posted a 2.47 ERA, won 22 games and struck out 193 batters.
