Everyday Eddie To Cincy

7
Vote

The Cincinnati Reds acquired RP Eddie Guardado and some cash from the Seattle Mariners for minor leaguer Travis Chick. The 35 year-old Guardado will join the Reds on Friday. This season, Guardado has lost his closing job, after blowing three saves in three chances. Guarado posted sub-par numbers, when compared to his previous seasons, going 1-3 with a 5.48 ERA. Last season, Guardado had 36 saves with a 2.72 ERA in 58 games. "Eddie had some struggles early on this season that allowed some of our young guys to run the back of the game and they got that job and haven't let go," general manager Bill Bavasi said in a release.

That sounds like a great trade - money and a (dodgy) bullpen player for a Minor Leaguer.

And to think, USS Mariner was calling for him to be DFA'ed.

The first line of the article is ironic.

I think Eddie is done. I don't think this will make much of a difference for the Reds.

He can't be much worse than Todd Coffey, who blew two saves in their last series against the Brewers.

Coffey has an upside. Eddie is on the way down. I don't know which is better. I guess maybe the change to the NL might make his #s a bit more pretty.

True, but for a team that's competing for the playoffs this year, they need a good reliever this year. Coffee might have upside, but for the team that's second in the NL Central, upside ain't gonna cut it. Not this year.

I basically just posted a redundant version of this with my own short opinions because I looked for Guardado among the headlines and didn't see it. After this year, he's no longer Everyday Eddie anyway. I hope I don't steal any votes.
