Escobar gets 3 more years

Kelvim Escobar will be an Angel until 2009 based on the new contract extension he signed today. The Angels apparently feel confident that Escobar has put his elbow problems of 2005 behind him, so they signed the 30 year old to a 3 year extension worth $28.5 million according to MLB.com.

He probably could have gotten much more if he waited until the off season free agent frenzy, but he said he wanted to stick with the Angels.

Escobar's K rate has dropped some this year and he has struggled with the HR ball at times; however, he has also significantly cut his BB rate. If healthy, this deal seems a little high, but he doesn't have an injury-free past.
