Born on January 16, 1890 in Atlanta, Georgia, Erskine Mayer (Jacob Erskine Mayer) played for the Philadelphia Phillies, Pittsburgh Pirates and Chicago White Sox over the course of his 8 year career. Mayer broke into the bigs on September 4, 1912 with the Philadelphia Phillies, and put up a 3.11 ERA in 170.2 innings pitched in 1913, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Erskine Mayer's best season was 1915, when he posted a 2.36 ERA, won 21 games and struck out 114 batters.
