Ernie Lewis (Ernest Clayton Lewis) was born on November 20, 1923 in Boonville, Missouri. After going to high school at Swink (CO), Lewis attended the University of Colorado. Lewis made his professional debut in the AAFC in 1946 with the Chicago Rockets. He played for the Chicago Rockets and Chicago Hornets over the course of his 4 year career.

Most people believe that 1946 was Ernie Lewis's best year, as he had a 41.7 yard punt average.
