Ernie Hughes (Ernest Loyal Hughes) was born on January 24, 1955 in Boise, Idaho. After going to high school at Capital (Boise, ID), Hughes attended the University of Notre Dame. Hughes made his professional debut in the NFL in 1978 with the San Francisco 49ers. He played for the New York Giants and San Francisco 49ers over the course of his 5 year career.
Most people believe that 1978 was Ernie Hughes's best year.
