Ernie Courtney (Edward Ernest Courtney) was born on January 20, 1875 in Des Moines, Iowa. He made his Major League debut on April 17, 1902 for the Boston Beaneaters. In 1902, his rookie year, he hit .225 with 0 home runs and 18 RBI. Courtney played for the Boston Beaneaters, Baltimore Orioles, New York Highlanders, Detroit Tigers and Philadelphia Phillies over the course of his 6 year career.

Most people believe that Ernie Courtney's best season was 1905, when he hit for a .275 average and knocked in 77 runs.
