Ernie Banks (Ernest Banks) was born on January 31, 1931 in Dallas, Texas. He made his Major League debut on September 17, 1953 for the Chicago Cubs. In 1954, his rookie year, he hit .275 with 19 home runs and 79 RBI. Banks played for the Chicago Cubs for his entire 19 year career.

Most people believe that Ernie Banks's best season was 1958, when he slugged 47 home runs, hit for a .313 average and knocked in 129 runs.

Banks, as a shortstop, teamed with 2nd baseman Gene Baker to form the Major Leagues' first African-American keystone combo.
