[edit] Trivia

  • Byrnes attended UCLA from 1995-1998. He played right field and batted second for the school team. He was able to play college ball with Major Leaguers like Garrett Atkins, Chase Utley, and Troy Glaus.
  • Byrnes holds the record for the most doubles in Pac-10 history (75).
  • Byrnes became only the 8th player in MLB history to steal 50 bases and hit 20+ home runs in the same season. He did just that in 2007, stealing exactly 50 bases and hitting 23 homers. The only others who have accomplished this feat are Rickey Henderson, Lou Brock, Eric Davis, Joe Morgan, Craig Biggio, Barry Bonds, and Hanley Ramirez (who did it in the same season).
  • Byrnes has his own TV show, called "The Eric Byrnes Show", which airs on FSN Arizona during the Diamondbacks' regular season. The half-hour show gives fans behind-the-scenes looks at the Arizona Diamondbacks, as well as Byrnes' personal life. During the 2007 off-season, Byrnes began a weekly radio show on XM Satellite Radio, called "Hustle with Eric Byrnes".
