End of an era in the Bronx?

With George Steinbrenner giving the ultimatum yesterday, I think it might be time for all us Yankee fans to say goodbye to Joe Torre. The guy who won 4 World Series, 10 divisions, 3 Wild Cards, 6 pennants, and never missed the playoffs while at the helm, appears on his way out as Yankee skipper. Goodbye Joe, we'll miss you (well, most of us anyway)

If this is true, I'd like to thank George Steinbrenner for once again messing with his team so much that it will suck.

I can not wait for when this next guy comes in and blows it, misses the playoffs, and George is begging for Torre back... no one can handle the media like Torre or all the egoes like Torre... Thank you George for making it easier for the Sox next year (and as this guy says, easier for the D-Rays)...

Although I don't like the idea of Torre leaving, in fact I hate it, and no manager will be able to replace him, I think that George has had enough of the losing. They will be clearing house, and we are going to go through another season where nothing will be the same of the old winning days of the '96-'00 era. I would like to see Mariano, Posada, and even A-Rod back in pinstripes next year. I hear that LaRussa is the number 1 pick so far for the position. And along with him will be Duncan, the pitching coach. Personally I liked Guidry as the pitching coach, we just didn't have solid pitching. Next year will be a different story. Lets just hope George doesn't go on a firing spree and do something he might later regret.

I think firing Joe Torre right now would be stupider than hiring Roger Clemens 2057 (for those of you who remember watching the video). Ever since Torre has got into the picture, the Yankees have won 3 World Series, 12 straight playoff appearances, 5 pennants, and an average of 98 wins per season. BUT, because they haven't made the ALCS in a while, Steinbrenner believes that by getting a new manager that everything will be ok, and the Yankees will win some more World Series. How queer of a move is Steinbrenner making?

If Steinbrenner wasn't joking when he said he'd fire Joe Torre, then I can say this unequivocally: HE'S AN IDIOT.

I'm no Yankees fan, don't get me wrong, but even I have to respect the hell out of Torre's record as Yankees manager. The stats speak for themselves: 4 World Series wins, 10 Division titles, etc. He's won over 1000 games, and over 70 games in playoff games. He's one of - if not the most - the "winningest" managers in baseball.

Go ahead and let him go if you want to, Steinbrenner. Just like Cubs fans (throwback to J Cunningham's article here), you'll have to find someone else to blame next year.

Torre deserves much better, unfortunately, he can only do so much, like guide a group of cry babies and overpaid ballers to the post season. He can't make A-Rod hit home runs and he can't make Clemens throw better strikes. He can just assemble the best team that his GM gets him, and guide them through the league. He deserves better.

Yeah, yeah, cry, cry sob. Go blow your noses on that $200 million wet tissue of a payroll and move on with your soul-less lives. Don't you have Mets fans to torture?

I dunno about other teams, but I would love a manager that took his team to the postseason 12 straight seasons, including a few in which around June it looked like they might not make it. And to everyone bitching about no World Series title in seven years ... GET THE F*@!% OVER IT!! Try sitting through 10 straight losing seasons with a dumbass owner -- or worse -- 99 years without a World Series. Firing Joe Torre ... that's gotta be the stupidest thing I've heard in ... the last three weeks!
