Emlen Tunnell (Emlen Lewis Tunnell) was born on March 29, 1922 in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. After going to high school at Radnor (PA), Tunnell attended the University of Iowa and the University of Toledo. Tunnell made his professional debut in the NFL in 1948 with the New York Giants. He played for the New York Giants and Green Bay Packers over the course of his 14 year career.

Most people believe that 1951 was Emlen Tunnell's best year, as he picked off 9 passes, had 489 punt return yards, ran back 3 punts for touchdowns and ran back a kickoff for a touchdown.
