Born on March 25, 1909 in Auburn, Illinois, Dutch Leonard (Emil John Leonard) played for the Brooklyn Dodgers, Washington Senators, Philadelphia Phillies and Chicago Cubs over the course of his 20 year career. Leonard broke into the bigs on August 31, 1933 with the Brooklyn Dodgers, and put up a 3.28 ERA in 183.2 innings pitched in 1934, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Dutch Leonard's best season was 1945, when he posted a 2.12 ERA, won 17 games and struck out 96 batters.
