Elroy Hirsch (Elroy Leon Hirsch) was born on June 17, 1923 in Wausau, Wisconsin. After going to high school at Wausau (WI), Hirsch attended the University of Michigan and the University of Wisconsin. Hirsch made his professional debut in the AAFC in 1946 with the Chicago Rockets. He played in the AAFC for 3 years, playing for the Chicago Rockets the entire time. Hirsch also played in the NFL for 9 years, playing for the Los Angeles Rams the entire time.

He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1968 and was named to the All-Decade team for the 1950s.

Most people believe that 1951 was Elroy Hirsch's best year, as he hauled in 66 receptions, had 1495 receiving yards and caught 17 TD passes.
