Elmer Valo (Elmer William Valo) was born on March 5, 1921 in Ribnik, Czechoslovakia. He made his Major League debut on September 22, 1940 for the Philadelphia Athletics. In 1942, his rookie year, he hit .251 with 2 home runs and 40 RBI. Valo played for the Philadelphia Athletics, Kansas City Athletics, Philadelphia Phillies, Brooklyn Dodgers, Los Angeles Dodgers, Cleveland Indians, Washington Senators, New York Yankees and Minnesota Twins over the course of his 20 year career.

Most people believe that Elmer Valo's best season was 1949, when he hit for a .283 average and knocked in 85 runs.
