Elmer Smith (Elmer John Smith) was born on September 21, 1892 in Sandusky, Ohio. He made his Major League debut on September 20, 1914 for the Cleveland Naps. In 1915, his rookie year, he hit .248 with 3 home runs and 67 RBI. Smith played for the Cleveland Naps, Cleveland Indians, Washington Senators, New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox and Cincinnati Reds over the course of his 10 year career.

Most people believe that Elmer Smith's best season was 1920, when he hit for a .316 average and knocked in 103 runs.
