Elmer Oliphant (Elmer Quillen Oliphant) was born on July 9, 1892 in Bloomfield, Indiana. After going to high school at Linton (IN) and Washington (IN), Oliphant attended Army College and Purdue University. Oliphant made his professional debut in the APFA in 1920 with the Rochester Jeffersons. He played for the Buffalo All-Americans and Rochester Jeffersons over the course of his 2 year career.
