Born on July 22, 1885 in Carrick, Pennsylvania, Elmer Knetzer (Elmer Ellsworth Knetzer) played for the Brooklyn Superbas, Pittsburgh Rebels, Cincinnati Reds and Boston Braves over the course of his 8 year career. Knetzer broke into the bigs on September 11, 1909 with the Brooklyn Superbas, and put up a 3.19 ERA in 132.2 innings pitched in 1910, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Elmer Knetzer's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1914, when he posted a 2.88 ERA, won 20 games and struck out 146 batters. However, others believe that it was 1915, when he posted a 2.58 ERA, won 18 games and struck out 120 batters.
