Born on August 10, 1892 in Salem, Missouri, Elmer Jacobs (William Elmer Jacobs) played for the Philadelphia Phillies, Pittsburgh Pirates, St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox over the course of his 9 year career. Jacobs broke into the bigs on April 23, 1914 with the Philadelphia Phillies, and put up a 4.80 ERA in 50.2 innings pitched in 1914, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Elmer Jacobs's best season was 1919, when he posted a 3.32 ERA and struck out 68 batters.
