Elmer Hackney (Elmer Loyd Hackney) was born on July 8, 1916 in Oberlin, Kansas. After going to high school at Decatur (Oberlin, KS), Hackney attended Kansas State University. Hackney made his professional debut in the NFL in 1940 with the Philadelphia Eagles. He played for the Detroit Lions, Pittsburgh Steelers and Philadelphia Eagles over the course of his 7 year career.

Most people believe that 1944 was Elmer Hackney's best year, as he ran in 4 TDs and picked off 3 passes.
