Eli Strand (Eli S. Strand) was born on February 11, 1943 in Mount Vernon, New York. After going to high school at Tuckahoe (NY), Strand attended Iowa State University. Strand made his professional debut in the NFL in 1966 with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He played for the New Orleans Saints and Pittsburgh Steelers over the course of his 2 year career.
