Election Day! Vote for the President of Sports!!!

13
Vote

by user Manny Stiles

Since today is election day, let's do some voting!

Imagine the entire sports world (the entire planet of sports) banned together to form a sports union. Well, there would need to leader, president, king/queen, dictator, CEO... whatever you want to call it. But WHO would YOU vote to head the World-Wide Sports Union?

Let's vote for the head leader of the Sports World ...and by "World", I mean planet Earth... Australia included (I might vote for Lauren Jackson after all)!!!

No smear campaigns, no "my opponent is a tax evader, dog kicker and child pornographer" commercials, just good old democracy-based voting. (Warning - voting may contain less than 10% actual democracy)

Candidates can be current or past sports figures, from any sport or sport related occupation (announcers, writers and people associated with sports in any manner ARE eligible) but MUST still be alive, that's the only qualifier.

ANYONE can vote: you don't need to be a certain age, from a certain country or of any particular creed... just need to be a sports fan with an opinion.

List your candidate in comments and people will "vote" for your candidate by plussing your submission. Just put one name per comment, it's an easy cheesy way to garner + votes (that is...IF your candidates are worthy) Vote early AND often!!

It would be so nice if no one would minus a nominated candidate...

WHO do you want to be the REAL "Worldwide Leader of Sports" (note the "of", ESPN lawyers...)

Actually, less than 1% of Arizona is actually 'desert'. Technically, it's semi-arid zone (Arid-zona!). We do get rain 10-15 inches a year (30-45cm) and most of the state is plush with flora and fauna. There's very little humidity, so even when it's hot, it doesn't feel as hot as the thermometer says (thus the saying... "Yeah, but it's a dry heat"). But it's ALWAYS sunny (over 340 days of sun/year) and the sun feels like it's 4 inches away from you. The MOST beautiful sunsets in the world occur in Arizona. Nights are always beautiful.

Much like the Navajos in Monument Valley here in Arizona, it's all over movies and TV, but it's sacred land. Of course, Navajos won't let you even take their picture without trying to make you pay them! Of course that Simpsons episode was far fetched... not all offices have the same length of terms (representatives are for 2 years, Senators are for 6 years) and not all offices end their terms at the same time (for instance Governor vote here in AZ is this year, while other states voted last year, etc..).

Plus there's ALWAYS local ballots with Propositions to vote on, and in some areas, judges and sheriffs to be picked. of course, the beauty of the U.S. is that it IS 50 different states with different rules all united under the U.S. Constitution.

It has it's downsides, but overall, it's a very effective way to manage a country (over 230 years and counting) although when they wrote it, they had no idea it would turn into this...

Yeah I spend too much time worrying about stupid things like NFL OT. Even if they do fix the rule I may as well complain about the following:
  • Why is it 4 downs instead of 3?
  • Why are the goal posts at the back of the end zone instead of on the goal line?
  • Why does that black box booth whatever thingy have to be that way?

1. Because it is in the NFL rules, you know that they couldn't copy the CFL rule for rule.

2. Too many players were getting hurt on post pattern plays, so the goal posts were moved to the back of the end zone. (Could be other reasons as well).

3. Too many engineers.

And besides ties in the NFL are pretty rare anyway.

Just for my own amusement I'm nominating Isaac Thomas. He knows how to get good talent into his organization, and would do better if his players give a damn
