Yesterday, NASCAR Driver Carl Edwards won his second race of the season, and clinches his spot in the Chase for the Cup. Edwards is currently fifth in the Nextel Cup standings with 3,160 points, 422 points behind the leader, Jeff Gordon. This season Edwards has not won a single pole, has won two races, with six top fives along with ten top ten finishes. He has made nearly three million dollars in earings ($2,803,007).
Edwards is the leader in the Busch Series standings, has 3,743 points (690 point lead over second place driver David Reutimann). In the Busch Series race he has not won a pole either, but he has four wins, with thirteen top five finishes, and seventeen top ten finishes. Edwards has made the most money in the Busch Series, with $945,560 in earnings.
There is just two races left until the Chase for the Cup in the Nextel Cup Series, on September 2nd he will travel to California, and on Saturday September 8th he will travel to Richmond for the Chevy Rock and Roll 400 to close out the regular season. The Chase for the Cup starts on September 16 in New Hampshire, and the last of the ten races is on November 18th in Homestead-Miami. I expect Jeff Gordon to finish off the Season in first, and eventually win the Nextel Cup possibly by a landslide, he is just too good of a driver, like him or not.
I don't expect Carl Edwards to even crack the top fifty in the Craftsmen Truck Series, Edwards is currently 54th in the standings with 251 points (2,430 behind the leader Mike Skinner). But, Edwards did manage to get one pole in the Series, but has zero wins, and one top five, and one top ten. He has made just $33,050 in earnings. Edwards has made a grand total of $3,781,617 in earnings. Kevin Harvick, who is currently tenth in the Nextel Cup standings, has more than that in earnings in just the Nextel Cup and Harvick is five spots behind Edwards, Harvick has made $5,749,850. Carl Edwards will have to really work hard to beat out current leader Jeff Gordon, Gordon is tied for most wins (4), and leads the Nextel Cup in poles (9), top five finishes (14), and top ten finishes (20).
