The first-place British Columbia Lions went into Edmonton to face the third-place Edmonton Eskimos . Or if you prefer, the top two quarterbacks, thus far in the season, squared off in front of a crowd of just over 35,000. Edmonton won the game and had the top QB of the game. Final score: Edmonton 27 - BC 20.

In the first quarter, WR Tony Tompkins retuned a punt to the Lions 14. QB Ricky Ray completed a 13 -yard pass to RB Troy Davis. On the next play Ray scored on a keeper.

Lions QB Dave Dickenson came out for his team's second drive to lead his team down the field. From the Eskimos 21, he threw a pass to WR Geroy Simon for a touchdown.

Edmonton was unable to respond on it's next drive.

However, Dickenson was able to move the ball again. He got his team to within a 37-yard field goal from K Paul McCallum. This gave the Lions a 10 - 7 lead by the end of the first quarter.

As the teams got ready for the second quarter, so did the heavy rains. Both teams seemed to be moving in slow motion as the rains continued. At one point the game was halted for a 28 minute delay, as the rain intensified.

After the break McCallum missed a 40-yard field goal, but was awarded a single when the ball was unreturnable from the end zone.

The soggy field hampered the Eskimos on their next possession as well, but K Sean Fleming was able to score a 26-yard field goal.

Dickenson was able to complete a pass on the next drive and was also awarded a 'roughing passer' call to move the ball to the Lions 54. But could go no farther.

Ricky Ray came out looking to capitalize on the following series, starting at their own 13. The Eskimos scraped together a long drive deep into Lions territory. Capped by a 10-yard pass to WR Jason Tucker for a touchdown. Edmonton led the game 17 -11 going into the half.

In the third quarter, the Eskimos continued as they had in the second. Another long drive, 74-yards, into Lions territory. Finished off by a great 26-yard catch by WR Ed Hervey, to push the Edmonton lead to 24 - 11.

Late in the third quarter, McCallum was able to score a 34-yard field goal to put the score 24 - 14.

Fleming scored a 42-yard field goal on the first play of the fourth quarter. Unfortunately for the Lions, McCallum was the only scorer of the quarter for them as well. Finishing the night with two more field goals of 28 and 22-yards.

Final stats Lions. QB Dave Dickenson was 20 of 37 for 233 yards with one tochdown and zero picks. RB Antonio Warren had seven attempts for 23 yards and zero touchdowns. WR Ryan Thelwell had five receptions for 76 yards and 0 touchdowns. K Paul McCallum was 4/5 on field goals and 1/1 on extra points. **Dickenson passed the 20,000 yard passing mark on the night. He is the 27th quarterback to reach this mark in the CFL.**

Final stats Eskimos. QB Ricky Ray was 21 of 29 for 325 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. RB Troy Davis had 17 rushes for 90 yards and zero touchdowns. WR Jason Tucker had five receptions for 101 yards and one touchdown. K Sean Fleming was 2/2 on field goals and 3/3 on extra points.

Why is it that Canadian Football seems to be getting a lot of attention, not only on this site, but also on ESPN as well? Is it just because of Ricky Williams?

I have always been a fan of the CFL. When I was invited to write on this site, I brought that interest with me. ESPN has always covered the CFL, to some degree or another. Yes, Ricky Williams has brought some attention to the CFL, but if you look around, he is not the only good/great player playing in the league.

The game last night was in Edmonton, not Vancouver.

CFL games are on OLN this year, right?

No, Christof. The CFL games are shown in the States on a smaller network, Comcast Sports. Or in Canada, you can see them on CBC or TSN.

ComcastSports and OLN are both owned by Comcast. The CFL may not be on OLN currently because of the Tour de France.

It is my understanding that OLN will not be covering the CFL games. Only Comcast SportsNet is slated to cover the games.
