Edgar Martinez (Pitcher)
[edit] BiographyMartinez had a .223 career AVG in the minors as a catcher. If he ever wanted to see the major leagues, a change was obviously in order. During the 2004 season Martinez was converted to a catcher. His knowledge of calling games and setting up hitters translated to success on the mound. His fastball is his only plus pitch with 93-94 mph heat that tops out at 96 and comes in on a downward plane. His slider and changeup both need work, but may improve after he has more experience as a pitcher. Martinez has only 62 professional innings and is already 24 years old so he has a lot of catching up to do. But it's not unrealistic to think that he might see some time in Boston when the rosters expand in September, depending on how he does in the minors this year. He has a 1.73 ERA with 64 K's and 24 BB's in his career so far. [edit] Scouting Report[edit] Statistics<stats> Player=Edgar Martinez Type=Batting </stats>
