Eddie Waitkus (Edward Stephen Waitkus) was born on September 4, 1919 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He made his Major League debut on April 15, 1941 for the Chicago Cubs. In 1946, his rookie year, he hit .304 with 4 home runs and 55 RBI. Waitkus played for the Chicago Cubs, Philadelphia Phillies and Baltimore Orioles over the course of his 11 year career.

There is some disagreement on what was Eddie Waitkus's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1950, when he hit for a .284 average. However, others believe that it was 1948, when he hit for a .295 average.
