Born on June 7, 1900 in Ashland, Ohio, Ed Wells (Edwin Lee Wells) played for the Detroit Tigers, New York Yankees and St. Louis Browns over the course of his 11 year career. Wells broke into the bigs on June 16, 1923 with the Detroit Tigers, and put up a 4.06 ERA in 102 innings pitched in 1924, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Ed Wells's best season was 1929, when he posted a 4.33 ERA, won 13 games and struck out 78 batters.
