Ed Travis (James Edward Travis) was born on July 17, 1897 in Tarkio, Missouri. After going to high school at Tarkio (MO), Travis attended Tarkio College and the University of Missouri. Travis made his professional debut in the APFA in 1921 with the Rock Island Independents. He played in the APFA for 1 year, playing for the Rock Island Independents the entire time. Travis also played in the NFL for 1 year, playing for the St. Louis All-Stars the entire time.
