Born on September 16, 1945 in Boston, Massachusetts, Ed Sprague (Edward Nelson Sprague, Sr.) played for the Oakland Athletics, Cincinnati Reds, St. Louis Cardinals and Milwaukee Brewers over the course of his 8 year career. Sprague broke into the bigs on April 10, 1968 with the Oakland Athletics, and put up a 3.28 ERA in 68.2 innings pitched in 1968, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Ed Sprague's best season was 1974, when he posted a 2.39 ERA and struck out 57 batters.
