Born on June 29, 1867 in Cleveland, Ohio, Ed Seward (Edward William Seward) played for the Providence Grays, Philadelphia Athletics and Cleveland Spiders over the course of his 6 year career. Seward broke into the bigs on September 30, 1885 with the Providence Grays, and put up a 4.13 ERA in 470.2 innings pitched in 1887, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Ed Seward's best season was 1888, when he posted a 2.01 ERA, won 35 games and struck out 272 batters.
