Ed Sauer (Edward Sauer) was born on January 3, 1919 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He made his Major League debut on September 17, 1943 for the Chicago Cubs. In 1949, his rookie year, he hit .259 with 3 home runs and 32 RBI. Sauer played for the Chicago Cubs, St. Louis Cardinals and Boston Braves over the course of his 4 year career.
