'Ed Kranepool (Edward Emil Kranepool) was born on November 8, 1944 in New York, New York. He made his Major League debut on September 22, 1962 for the New York Mets. In 1963, his rookie year, he hit .209 with 2 home runs and 14 RBI. Kranepool played for the New York Mets for his entire 18 year career. 

    Steady Eddie was a top pinch hitter later in his career - batting .396 in that role from 1974 thru 1978. 
    His .486 PH average in 1974 is still a record.
    Most people believe that Ed Kranepool's best season was 1971, when he  hit for a .280 average with 58 rbi.
    In 1975 Ed hit a career best .323.  He is among the all time leaders on the Mets in many offensive categories.'
